Here is my Brussels last and wonderful discovery.
“Peï & Meï”, a name that perfectly reflects the humility and sympathy of this authentic and modern Belgian bistro. “Peï & Meï” that means in Brusseleir a guy and a girl in the name of Gauthier and Melissa, the step-son and daughter of Evan, Gril aux Herbes’s owner.
After having practiced at Trèfle à 4 and Fourneau restaurants, it was time for Gauthier De Baere to open with his wife his own Belgian bistronomic place.
Like a hidden gem between houses in Rollebeek street, you enter a long corridor of raw bricks to get to a small room with light wooden furniture, overlooking the open kitchen.
Within seconds, the authenticity and warmth of the place charmed me. Sipping a glass of white mirabelle plum wine, I felt like home, discovering a tempting menu, composed by very carefully selected products (la Maison Montauzer, l’Art et le Goût, la poissonnerie Triton…).
The salad of lentils and chorizo espuma feta and leek soup set directly the things up. And the gourmet experience continued with the pork feet croquette with homemade vegetable pickles, the egg cocotte with foie gras sauce and truffle emulsion and the Simmental steak with homemade Béarnaise sauce…
Through beautiful gourmet dishes, I found in ” Peï & Meï”cuisine the humility that makes you want to flatter their authors even more. Because young and beautiful projects like this belong to work and merit. But mostly because I loved to feel the respect of the real home cooking and the involvement of the chief who discreetly observed every detail in the room behind the shelves from his kitchen.
